utterly content with those four record purchases
the xx album is a delight, even with its occasionally weak points. like a band of people raised on a diet of echo and the bunnymen and everything but the girl, but the boy/girl vocals are strangely balanced. prefer her voice to his, i think. 'islands' and 'intro' and 'basic space' all got several stars in itunes :)
mumford and sons - sigh no more
love songs with a healthy and sweet dose of implied muscular yet romantic sex... sexy, if true love ever was. 'little lion man' the most amazing song, but the album holds together around it, sitting there at track seven, like a fight scene in a film. 'white blank page' and 'thistle and weeds' have been singled out for attention so far.
the field - brilliant have-it-on-all-afternoon beats. with a few odd tracks, not sure if i like that 'everybody's gotta learn sometime' thing. but then, i didn't like the beck cover of that either, i figure why remake a perfect song, though... the rest of it, though, ace.
and holy fuck - yeah, wow. excellent. only got one whole listen in over the weekend, but will give it another full play as soon as i can.
am happy to recommend any of it.
mumford and sons to pogues (and possibly coldplay!) fans
the xx to cure fans
the field to fourtet fans
and holy fuck to mgmt/!!! fans
yay! new music!
