uno mas?

the youtube comment about this one is bang on -
"one of the few songs you HAVE to listen to on loop"
#c0medy

and of the three xx songs i've listened to today, this one i like the best

and i notice that the offical xx videos on youtube contain links to buy the records from rough trade :) and what a fine shop that is

and in some other record store news, melbourne's missing link, with the superfine online shop, is "going digital": Melbourne’s Missing Link Goes Digital In News : Mess+Noise

still prefer owning the vinyl/cd, but then again, as a compulsive archivist and collector, i would

listen on

put it in my drip...

midlake - young bride

i don't care if i like this band or not

this song kept me company, demanded my attention, all day, and yesterday

that violin break at the third minute, with that steady, hiccupping drum under it

stunning

passive acrostive

may i recommend watching this animation while listening to harm and boon, tiny vipers remix of the balmorhea track?

it's sweet, but don't forget to volume < for it, or you'll get the swan lake/balmorhea mashup that nobody needs to hear

stay listening

sleep

someone i trust to recommend music to me has mentioned something today

a dj olive. an ex-pat australian residing in new york, responded to the stress-related sleep deprivation of that city post september 11, created a sleep mix which was released on a lovely-looking label called room 40

room 40

room 40 describe their endeavour as "... delivering sound parcels from the antipodes since the turn of the century", and you can't say that ain't a delightful turn of phrase :)

the room of this unknown listener is now in a new house and getting to sleep in a new room in a new house can be tricky. i donned my beloved senneheiser digital headphones and tuned out to a long playlist of long songs, featuring some sleep-magic lengthy tracks.

this dj olive release has shot to the top of my wishlist because this is where music is more like therapy or meditation than just something to have on in the background.

i perform most of my narratives in this life to a soundtrack of some description. i dream of high-fidelity stereo systems and perfect listening environments.

i believe that music can help me navigate my way out of a tangle of words.

listening to that excerpt from dj olive's sleep i am mentally playlisting: growing, eluvium, eno/budd, vladislav delay...

more from me soon

'til now, sleep

:)

inspired by peanuts

i love this

found while researching for earl of sandwich

by antiguoautomata — January 08, 2010 — The song Peanuts by Tindersticks with Charles M.Schultz series Peanuts footage.

love and heartbreak

gedge, barlow, oldham...

david gedge

what a beautiful man... sorry but he is. when he smiles

leeds

heartbreak early when the drummer he loves leaves him for another band mate

but then, later, recorded by steve albini... championed by john peel (rip.)

and all those amazing songs

new favourite is 'no' off bizarro

and realising the brilliance of 'brassneck'

that actually might be the original version. not sure. it sounds bigger on the recording i have. and maybe slightly different.

i first heard the wedding present in the early 90s. got watusi not long after it came out i think... yep, 1994, island

adelaide, where i'm from, we knew what was happening in england. always. sarah. julian clary. the office, the goodies, ride, new order, (...chapterhouse, slowdive, seefeel) the bbc world service :)

more english than the english, i've heard said

it is a particular accent, not as strong as gedge's leeds or the rumble of a westcountry burr but it's individual...

:)
